Tuesday, April 30, 2019 (Day 6)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  They then had time to finish/refine their plot diagrams with a partner.  Next, they chose an Inquiry topic and we discussed how to write an Essential Question.  Finally, they came up with an Essential Question, which they will research over the next few classes.

FRENCH 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then we added some body part labels to animals.  Finally the students listened to a description of a monster and then drew it.  Then we checked their listening skills.

SOCIAL 7B

We reviewed the three civilizations, which the students had shared over the last three classes:  The Incas, The Mayas and the Aztecs.  We also read page 16 and 17 of the textbook.  Then the students created a compare and contrast chart using three circles.  You can find a copy on Classroom if you were absent.





Monday, April 29, 2019 (Day 5)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  Then they worked on planning out the plot of their novel.  The planning sheet may be found on Google Classroom.

FRENCH 8A

The students practiced their Chaise Chaud questions.  They then watched a video and did a summative activity.  If you were absent see Miss Riddell to pick a time to do this activity.

SOCIAL 7B

The students did their final jigsaw activity to learn about the Aztecs.

CAREERS 8A

The students talked bout open vs closed job markets.  Then they practiced filling in a job application for one of the following:
a) Town of Unity - cutting grass
b) Subway - sandwich artist
c) Red Apples - stocking shelves and cashier
d) Star Express - busing tables and washing dishes

Thursday, April 18, 2019 (Day 4)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  They went through the plot diagram for Romeo and Juliet. (They should hang on to it for studying for the final.) After break they will be plotting ten chapters of their own novel following a similar format.  The students then had time to finish their Character Description, which should be one page and size 14 font.  Please print and hand in when done. It is now overdue.

The students worked in a jigsaw activity to learn about the Mayan society.  Each topic was condensed to five important/interesting facts and shared with the class.

FRENCH 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then we finished doing some vocabulary on body parts, including a crossword.   We also read the story "Le Diable et Las Loups-Garou" and finished the class up with a Kahoot.

FRENCH 8B

Four students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then we answered our pen pal letters/ e-mails on ePals.

Wednesday, April 17, 2019 (Day 3)

FRENCH 8A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  The students had 5 minutes to review and study for their Passé Composé exam. The students also had time to work on their pen pal e-mail letters.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  They had the rest of the class to type out a description of their main character. As everyone worked well I will give them some more time tomorrow to finish up.

Today we did a jigsaw activity on the Incan civilization of Mexico.  Students worked in groups of 3 and chose 5 pieces of important information.  They combined with another group and then refined their choices.  Finally they shared with the whole class and everyone has the information.

FRENCH 7A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then we reviewed Avoir (to have) before using it to write sentences describing a monster.

SOCIAL 7B

Today we read an article and watched two videos on the USMCA trade deal, which replaced NAFTA. The students then did some reflection questions. If you were absent the questions are posted on Google Classroom. We also finished watching a video on Mexico.








ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  Then the students viewed and discussed the following presentation on creating a character.  Finally, students started to create their own main character for the novel they will be writing. A planning sheet can be found on Google Classroom.
Tomorrow they will have time to write a character sketch on Google Classroom.

CAREERS 8B

Today the students practiced filling out an application and we started discussing what goes into a resume.

FRENCH 7A

We had three students in the Chaise Chaud.  The students then viewed and discussed a French-Canadian legend.  We continued learning vocabulary for body parts.

FRENCH 8B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  The students had a few minutes to review the passé composé before writing their quiz.  Logan presented his Music Poster.

ELA 9A

The students read for ten minutes.  We corrected the vocabulary from lesson 4 and students finished up B & C (to be corrected next day).  Romeo and Juliet essays are now overdue from the following people:

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  They then finished up the following:
1. Editing with their partner (if you were absent and did not do this prepare to be in my room Monday at lunch)
2.  Edited their typed copy - doubled spaced - size 14 font.
3.  Added a title page and bibliography (on separate pages).
4. Printed good copy
5. Handed in - planning sheet
                     - AR evaluation sheet
                     - Rough copy
                     - Good copy
6. Read or worked on other homework.

FRENCH 7B

The students reviewed the verb endings and then wrote their verb quiz. We also started learning some body parts for our Monsters and Legends theme.

SOCIAL 7B

The students read and discussed pages 2-7 in the text, which were about the unit and featured Carolina who lives in Mexico. The students answered the questions on page 7 and made a chart for question 3.

COMPUTERS 8

This class worked on Digital Footprints.

*Monday is EARLY DISMISSAL at 2:15.  We'll be following an alternate bell schedule.

Thursday, April 11, 2019 (Day 5)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  Then we discussed editing using the following slideshows.  The students then edited their Romeo and Juliet essays with a partner.  Several people were not done their rough draft so they continued working on that.  Everyone must have a rough copy done for TOMORROW as essays will be due at the end of class.

SOCIAL 7B

The students finished researching Mexico and Indonesia and we discussed what they found.

FRENCH 8A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We reviewed passé composé for our test on Monday.  Today we focused on irregular verbs.
*Remember:

Pronoun + Avoir (conjugated) + Past Participle

Past Participles:  ER --> é  (jouer --> joué)
                            IR --> i  (finir --> fini)
                            RE --> u  (attendre --> attendu)

CAREERS 8A

The students discussed setting good goals, which are:
Measurable
Achievable
Concrete
Specific
They practiced re-writing some goals and wrote some goals of their own.  They also had a chance to look at another student's goals and act as a consultant to help them improve their goal writing.  Next class we will start discussing job applications and resumes.

Wednesday, April 10, 2019 (Day 4)

ELA 9A

The 9A class did a great job of performing their two selections at Music Festival.  They received a mark of 87% for The Prologue from Romeo and Juliet and an 88% for The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost.  Tomorrow is peer editing day so they must have a rough draft, of their Romeo and Juliet essay, printed for the start of class.

SOCIAL 7B

We had a short class as they also performed at Music Festival.  The students started to do some research and comparison on Mexico and Indonesia.  We'll finish up tomorrow.

FRENCH 7B

Two students were in the Chaise Chaud to finish up our theme of sports.  Then we got ready for the next theme "Au Printemps" Spring.  The students reviewed the verb endings for ER, IR, and RE verbs with the videos below and we played a Kahoot.  The exam on these verbs will be on Friday, April 12th.

ELA 9B

The 9B class also did a fine job of performing their two selections at Music Festival.  They received a mark of 86% for The Prologue (Act II)  from Romeo and Juliet and an 86% for Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost.  They had class today and after reading for ten minutes had time to complete the rough draft of their Romeo and Juliet essay.  Tomorrow is peer editing day so they must have a rough draft printed for the start of class.

FRENCH 8B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then we reviewed passé composè, focusing on irregular verbs.  The students have their passé composè exam next class - Monday, April 15th.

FRENCH 8A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We reviewed our regular passé composé verbs.
pronoun + avoir (conjugated) + past participles  (ER--> é   IR--> i     RE--> u)
We corrected the sheet using these forms from last class and then practiced with a kahoot.
Our test will be on Wednesday, April 17th.  
Make sure to get your sheets from Miss Riddell if you were absent.  They are very useful for studying.  You may play the kahoot posted on Google Classroom to help you study.

ELA 9A & 9B

Today the students read fro ten minutes.  Then we had our final poem practices for Music Festival.  Tomorrow is Music Festival at 9:15 am at Unity Public School.  Please dress appropriately.  
The rest of today's class was work time for the rough drafts of the students' Romeo and Juliet essays. They should have a rough draft finished and printed for peer editing on Thursday.  Good copies are due on Friday.

SOCIAL 7B

Today is the last day for working on posters.  They are now due.  Some of the students who finished early got to work on a Google Earth Scavenger Hunt.

FRENCH 7A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We introduced new vocabulary for body parts and started to read a French Legend about "Le Diable et Les Loups-Garous."

SOCIAL 7B

The students continued working on their poster assignment.  Tomorrow will be their last class to work on it.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes and we practiced our poems, which we will be performing at Music Festival at 9:15 am on Wednesday, April 10th at Unity Public School.  Feel free to join us.  The students then had time to work on their rough copy of their Romeo and Juliet Essay.  They will have work time to finish their rough drafts tomorrow.  We will be editing on Thursday and the essays will be due on Friday.

CAREERS 8B 

The students finished an activity on goals.  If you were absent you'll need to see Miss Riddell for a sheet and instructions.  Then we discussed finding a job using the open and hidden job markets, the benefits of networking and the information you may put on an application form.

FRENCH 7A

The students wrote their verb quiz on ER, IR, and RE verbs.  We also had time to start our new Chaise Chaud theme of spring "Le printemps."


FRENCH 8B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Logan presented his Music Poster.  We completed and corrected a passé composé review sheet and will be having our quiz on Monday, April 15th.

Today the students read for ten minutes.  They practiced their Music Festival poems. Lastly, the students completed the vocabulary definitions for Lesson 4.  For Monday planning sheets are due so essay writing can commence.

The students had this class to work on their posters. Posters will be due at the end of class on Monday.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  We practiced our poems, which we will be performing starting ta 9:15 am on Wednesday, April 10th at Unity Public School.  Then the students worked on their essays.  Everyone should be done their planning sheet for Monday and ready to start writing.

FRENCH 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We reviewed the three verb families ER, IR, and RE.    We corrected the practice sheet we did last class and then practiced with a Kahoot.  Out quiz on the verb conjugations will be on Friday, April 12th.

SOCIAL 7B

Today the students started their posters by labeling maps of Canada and Russia.  I have map outlines for those who were absent or you can print them from Google Classroom.   Tomorrow we'll start assembling our posters.

Wednesday, April 3, 2018 (Day 5)

ELA 9A & 9B

Today the students read for ten minutes and then practiced their poems for the Music Festival.  We will be performing at 9:15 am on Wednesday, April 12th in the Unity Public School gym. This is a summative so students must attend that day.

Today the students started their final Romeo and Juliet essay.  They are writing 5 paragraphs on who they believe is most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet and backing this up with at least 3 quotes from the play.  Today we started planning out the essays.  If you were absent the planning sheet is posted on Google Classroom.

FRENCH 8A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We have two students left to present their Music Posters next class (Parker and Ryder).  The students  also spent time finishing up the pen pal e-mails. We also did a review passé composé sheet, which we'll correct next day.

SOCIAL 7B

We discussed treaties in Canada.


WARRIOR TIME

The senior students did the Thriving Youth, Thriving Communities Survey for SAYCW.  The junior students started to plan for their SLCs, which are next week on Thursday, April 11th  from 4:30-7:30.

Tuesday, April 2, 2019 (Day 4)

ELA 9A & 9B

Today the students read for ten minutes.  Then they practiced their poems, which are coming along nicely.  We watched the rest of Act IV & V of Romeo and Juliet (the Baz Luhrmann version) and students finished up their analysis.  If you missed the films I'll be playing them at a noon hour once Jenna returns.
We also discussed how to write an essay and discussed who we might blame for Romeo and Juliet's' deaths. Tomorrow we will start planning our essays.  They will be due at the end of next week.

SOCIAL 7B

Today we watched several videos about the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and discussed benefits and risks of nuclear power.  The students wrote a short explanation of their feelings on nuclear power.  We also discussed how First Nations have been affected by the European settlers/explorers.  We also discussed how to help the environment by what we buy, recycling, composting, and so on.

FRENCH 7B

Today we reviewed the three verb families and put them into a chart.  We also reviewed verbs for each family and practiced conjugating them.  This is in preparation for our Verb Test on Friday, April 12th.

FRENCH 8B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We reviewed RE verbs and the students wrote 5 sentences using them.  We had several people finally present their music posters.  Logan will be present tomorrow in Warrior Time.  Then we played a kahoot to practice passé composé.

Monday, April 1, 2019 (Day 3)

FRENCH 8A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud for our new theme on Seasons.  The students completed the sentences for the RE verb sheet.  Then we logged onto e-pals and the students started to answer the letters they received (in e-mail form).  We'll finish up next class.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  Then they practiced their Music Festival poems, from memory today.  Next we finished watching the Zeffirelli version or Act IV & V of Romeo and Juliet and started watching the Luhrmann version.

SOCIAL 7B

Today we did a jigsaw activity to look at various people who agree and disagree with opening the Northwest Passage through the Arctic.  The students then decided on their personal stand and wrote it down.  Next the students brainstormed pros and cons to humans interacting with the natural environment through farming, mining, hunting, fishing and other activities. As a group they came up with a great list.  Finally we started to discuss the benefits and risks associated with using nuclear power.
