Thursday, February 28, 2019 (Day 6)

ELA 9A & 9B

Today the students read and then we watched Act two of the David Leveaux version of "Romeo and Juliet" starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad.
9A will be working on vocabulary tomorrow.  We'll be correcting lesson 2 and starting lesson 3.

FRENCH 7B

The students had one last class to green screen their trips. If you did not get all of your green screening done then you must do it at a noon hour or after school. Some had time to start putting their clips into iMovie. We'll finish assembling the videos next class, Wednesday, March 6th.

SOCIAL 7B

The students had some time to complete the remaining maps of the Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut.  We corrected these maps as well. There were a few changes:
NWT - Change Fort Norman to Fort Good Hope 
          - Change Rae to Rae Edzo
Nunavut - Chesterfield Inlet is a body of water & the town is Igluligaarjuk

Tomorrow is the Senior Girls Basketball Tournament with the PINK GAME to raise money for Breast Cancer Research, which starts at 8:45 pm.  Come out for a great cause!

Wednesday, February 26, 2019 (Day 4)

ELA 9A & 9B

We finished correcting the questions for Act Two of Romeo and Juliet.  You may find these posted on Google Classroom. Then we went through the film analysis for Act One and started to watch the Carlo Carlei version of Act Two.  If you were absent I will be showing this again Friday at lunch or Thursday if curling is done earlier than planned.

FRENCH 8A

We had three people in the Chaise Chaud today.  Then I gave the class one final workday, even though it was due last class, on their Music Poster.  Presentations will begin next class.  Those that were finished had some extra time to work on their Career research project.

SOCIAL 7B

The students had some time to complete their Alberta map labeling.  We were uninterrupted by a false fire alarm so everyone got a few seconds of fresh air.  Then we exchanged and corrected our Alberta maps.  We also went through and labeled the towns in British Columbia.

CAREERS 8A

The students had this class to research a job and create a slideshow about it.  They will have two more classes to work on this and it will be due at the end of class on March 15th.

Tuesday, February 26, 2019 (Day 4)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  Then they had part of the class to finish up the questions on Act Two of Romeo and Juliet before we started to correct. We'll finish correcting and start watching Act 2 versions tomorrow.

SOCIAL 7B

The students corrected their labeling of the Saskatchewan map.  Then they did Alberta by themselves.

FRENCH 7B

The students practiced pronouncing their Mon Voyage scripts.  Then they had time to green screen their videos. We'll be putting the final videos together in iMovie next class.  If you missed a filming day you need to take a noon hour to get caught up.

FRENCH 8B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then we moved to the library and the students had one last class to finish up their Music Posters.  We will start presentations during Friday's class.

Tomorrow is PINK SHIRT DAY.  Wear a pink shirt to show that you are against bullying.

FRENCH 8A

The students learned their new Warrior Time sessions and then we headed to the library for a final work time on their Music Posters.  Posters are now due at the start of class on Wednesday.

ELA 9B & 9A

The students read for ten minutes.  We went through plans for our Activate Buddy Lunch tomorrow.  Then we finished reading Act Two of "Romeo and Juliet."  The students started the questions about this Act.  They are posted on Google Classroom if you were absent.

SOCIAL 7B

The students received back their Ontario maps with a summative mark.  Then we discussed how to improve out labeling in the future by doing the Manitoba map together.   Label the lakes first, then the towns/cities, and finally the rivers. Compare the farthest Northern locations to your map. The students then had time to do the Saskatchewan map with a partner.

Friday, February 15, 2019 (Day 2)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes and we continued reading Romeo and Juliet Act Two.  We'll finish this act after break.

FRENCH 7A

The students wrote out their answer for the new Chaise Chaud on sports.  Then they had time to finish green screening and assemble their iMovie.  The finished videos need to be uploaded to YouTube and then linked to the Google Classroom assignment, unless they were uploaded to my account.

SOCIAL 7B

The students all labeled the map of Ontario as a summative assessment.  Then they had time to finish outstanding assignments.

FRENCH 7A

The students had this class to finish up their video taping with the green screen.  If you did not get finished you need to take a lunch or an after school and get finished.  Next class we'll be assembling our videos in iMovie.

FRENCH 8B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud, discussing sports.  Then we moved to the library so the students could work on their posters.  They will have one more class to work on their posters.








ELA 9A

The students read for ten minutes. Then they completed Lesson 2 Part A (We'll finish Parts B, and C nexy class) with a partner.
Those who finished early had time to complete other ELA homework or read.

Today Mrs. David and Mrs. Snell joined us and we discussed rules and expectations of both EF Tours and UCHS.  The students received a Pledge to sign.  Parents please review the attached slide show and then co-sign and return the pledge as soon as possible.  Thank-you!

ELA 9A & 9B

Today the students read for 10 minutes.  Then we started to read Act Two of "Romeo and Juliet."


FRENCH 7B

The students practiced their lines and then they spread out around the school to green screen their videos. They will have one more class to green screen.  If you were absent you may need to do some videoing at a lunch or after school.

SOCIAL 7B

Today we corrected their labels for Atlantic Canada and reviewed how to use the index in an atlas.  Then in pairs they labeled Quebec.

WARRIOR TIME

Today was homeroom and sign up for the next sessions.  The grade nine classes and I finalized plans for out Activate project of a Buddy Lunch with the grade 6's on Tuesday, February 26th.

Tuesday, February 12, 2019 (Day 5)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes. We finished watching Act One of West Side Story.  Then the students completed their film analysis.  If you were absent I'm replaying Act One (pt 1) of Zeffirelli today and will play Act One (pt 2) Zeffirelli & Act One (pt 1) West Side Story tomorrow. Act One (pt 2) on Thursday.  Be responsible and make up what you missed.

FRENCH 8A

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud for our new topic of "Les Sports."  Then the students had a class to work on their Music Posters.  Posters will be due Monday, February 25th.  They will have more class time before then to complete them.

SOCIAL 7B

The students are continuing to work with maps.  Today we discussed how a scale makes copying a map more exact.  Then the students used their index skills from yesterday and an atlas to label a map of the Atlantic provinces.


WARRIOR TIME

Today we discussed a melange of things from food to washrooms to groups to meetings.


CAREERS 8A

The students finished up their self reflection with a final activity.  They all "won" $10 000 000 and had to decide what they would do with their lives if this happened.  Did they follow the same career path or try something different?  Then they picked one job to research and present on.  All Career Presentation information can be found on Google Classroom if you were absent. Have a job chosen to research next class.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes and we continued watching Act One of Romeo and Juliet directed by Zeffirelli.  Then we started to watch West Side Story as a comparison.  If you were absent you should have been in my room at lunch to watch what you missed on Friday.  See me to arrange a time.

SOCIAL 7B

The students practiced using a grid with letter marking vertical lines of longitude, and numbers marking lines of latitude to find locations on various maps of Canada.
Using the map above:
C3 would be located in British Columbia and Alberta
G1 would be located in Manitoba and the U.S.A.
D5 would be located in Alberta, British Columbia, and the North West Territories

The students started green screening their video travels to a Canadian province.

FRENCH 8B

Friday, February 8, 2019 (Day 3)

FRENCH 8A

We finished up our Chaise Chaud on music and prepared for our next topic on sports.  The students received their Simpsons Clothing Descriptions and Song Analysis sheets back as formative assessment.  We discussed the common errors.  Then the students had time to choose the musician or group they are going to create a poster about and did as much of their rough draft as possible.  They will have two class periods to work on this and it will be due:  Monday, February 25th.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  We corrected the questions about Act One of "Romeo and Juliet." The answers will be available on Google Classroom.  We then watched most of Act One of the Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet.  If you were absent I will be replaying it Monday at lunch.
You will be responsible for a film analysis.

SOCIAL 7B

The students reviewed how to use the scale of map to figure out the actual distances between places on a map.   We practiced using a map of Australia.  Then the students had time to complete their Rock Band Canadian Tour activity.

Thursday, February 7, 2019 (Day 2)

FRENCH 7A

The students continued green screening their voyages across Canada in French.  We'll have at least one more class for filming.

SOCIAL 7B

Today we discussed scale on maps.  They shrink the distances to fit them on the map and then label this on a map either with a statement (One centimetre equals one kilometer), a ratio (1cm:1km) or a line scale.  We used a line scale to calculate distances between several pairs of cities in Canada.  The videos below will give you some information on what we did.  The students than started an activity where their Rock Band is travelling on a seven city tour in Canada.  They needed to plan the tour and calculate the distances between the cities and the total distance. We'll finish the calculations tomorrow,



ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  We finished reading Act One of "Romeo and Juliet."  The students reviewed the act by completing some questions, which we'll correct tomorrow.  If you were absent you can find the questions posted on Google Classroom.

WARRIOR TIME

Today we looked at some animals we might see in Greece.  We also reviewed the Top 10 Monsters from Greek Mythology.  The students then tried their knowledge out by doing a couple of Kahoots.  Congratulations to Brandon who now has the title of "King of Greek Mythology!"



CAREERS 8B

The students started to crease a career of their choice today.  Links to useful sights and an outline are available on Google Classroom.  They will have two more classes for research and assembly of their information in a Google Slides presentation.

Wednesday, February 6, 2019 (Day 1)

FRENCH 7A

The students started to green-screen today.  They need to be RESPECTFUL of others in their group  (not making noises while someone is filming) and make sure that someone is always green-screening so as not to waste time. The students will have 2 more classes to complete their filming.


FRENCH 8B

The students received a new Chaise Chaud on sports.Then we went through their formative sheets on song analysis and describing the Simpsons clothing and physical features.  Students then had time to complete a rough draft of their poster on a Musical Group or Singer.  If you were absent come and see me for the planning sheet and your hand backs.  There will be work time on the poster for two classes and it will be due Thursday, February 14th.

ELA 9A

The students read for ten minutes.  Then they had time to complete sections B & C of Lesson 1 in vocabulary.  They need to write out the sentences and fill in the correct vocabulary word.  We will be having an OPEN BOOK test after lesson 3 so it is important to do this well and keep your answers in a notebook.  If you were absent this is homework and you can bring it to me to correct.

SOCIAL 7B

The students had this class to finish their personal Island Maps.  It is now homework for those not finished in class or absent.  For those students who did finish they got a chance to do a Google Earth Scavenger Hunt.

WARRIOR TIME

Today we discussed some of the yummy food that we may get to try on our trip.  Remember to go with an adventurous attitude, try everything once, and the good stuff twice.  We also worked on a wordsearch of Italian Food terms.

ELA 9A & 9B

Both classes read for ten minutes before we continued reading "Romeo and Juliet."  We are almost done Act 1, which will be followed up with some questions and a video comparison of two film versions.

FRENCH 7B

The students practiced their green-screen words orally.  Then they found pictures, which will be their green-screen backgrounds.

SOCIAL 7B

The students had today's class to finish the rough draft of their personal island map. Many started their good copy.  Tomorrow will be the last class time to work on it and it will be due at the start of class on Thursday.  If you were absent try to get your rough draft done at home tonight.

WARRIOR TIME

Today we discussed what you can and cannot bring home through customs.  Check out the slideshow for more information.  One point that came up from discussion - You must bring your passport on this trip even if you have Nexus, as we're traveling internationally.

Monday, February 4, 2019 (Day 5)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  Then we read the Prologue and started reading Act 1 of "Romeo and Juliet."

FRENCH 8A

Two students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We continued to practice clothing terms and sentences with a crossword and a writing activity, which described Homer and Marge Simpson.  Please complete and hand this in if you were absent.

SOCIAL 7B

The students signed out their textbooks, corrected a Google Earth activity with Mr.Melnyk.  Then they started to design a map of their own island.


WARRIOR TIME

Today we discussed money.  The attached link takes you to the power point we went through.  We finished with some math converting euros to Canadian dollars.

CAREERS 8A

The students finished up their profiles and picked out a possible job based on what they had discovered about themselves.  The students then did an evaluation of how important various values are to them (example:  beauty, compassion, money, family, adventure, and so on).  The students learned that values don't usually change so they should keep in mind their top five when thinking of a future job.  Lastly, the students started to predict (using:  where what, how, who, and why) their lives in ten years.  We'll finish this up next class and choose a job to research and present.

Friday, February 1, 2019 (Day 4)

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  Then they completed an opinion questionnaire on some themes, situations found in Romeo and Juliet.
Example:  Do you believe in love at first sight?  Why or why not?
Are love stories better when you know the lovers are doomed?  Why or why not?
Then we discussed the students opinions.
*You must have your own copy of Romeo and Juliet for next class.
*Please return your copy of "The Outsiders" to the library if you are done with it.

The class reviewed some key map terms and information on latitude and longitude.  They did a short review activity.  Then they used Google Earth to locate and identify some countries and some bodies of water based on their latitude and longitude coordinates.


FRENCH 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We practiced using our provincial and transportation vocabulary orally.  Then students planned a trip to a province that they are going to create with the green-screen.

Today we watched some videos about Greece including some of the places we will visit, Greek Gods, and some useful Greek phrases.  Here is a playlist of the videos we watched.  Note the first one does include the islands, which we will not be going to.

FRENCH 8B

Five students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We practiced describing Lisa Simpsons' clothing an students wrote out descriptions for Marge and Homer, which were then handed in as a formative assessment.  We added some extra clothing vocabulary with a crossword puzzle.  Two students modeled for us and then the students received their report cards.
