Thursday, June 21, 2018 (Day 5)

COMPUTERS 8

We had our last class.  The students had time to submit summatives, finish summatives and re-assess summatives.  If they were done all that they had time to work on a final Scratch program.

FRENCH 10/20

Today was Crêpe Day and it was delicious!














ELA 9A & 9B

We finished watching "Gnomeo and Juliet" while eating ice cream sandwiches.  Then it was a school wide locker clean out.  Look over your notes for your English Final tomorrow at 9:00 am sharp.  If you have any of my books at home please return them to my room.  If you'd like any of your assignments back they will be available for pick up tomorrow after the ELA final. Remember library and text books need to be returned to the library.

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 (Day 4)

FRENCH 10/20

The students finished presenting their Restaurant scenarios.  Then we watched a bit of Rataouille (in French , of course.)  We reviewed the recipe for tomorrow's class.  Remember to bring your ingredients for crêpes tomorrow.

ELA 9A

The students received an outline for the final and then started watching "Gnomeo and Juliet."

FRENCH 7B

The students watched an episode of Chez Mimi and sumamrized it.  They received an outline for the final exam and we played a couple of games.

ELA 9A

The students had some last time to finish up as much of their novel as possible before turning it in for marking.  We went through the outline for the final exam and then started to watch "Gnomeo and Juliet."

FRENCH 7A

The students had this class to finish their last summative assessment, a poster about a friend.  They received an outline for the final exam, unless they received a recommend.

Tuesday, June 19, 2018 (Day 3)

COMPUTERS 8

1. The students had time to finish their storyboards.  
2. They also had time to re-assess other summatives. 
3. They had time to work on a final game in SCRATCH, adding in scoring and other bonus items.

FRENCH 10/20

The students felt they needed some more time to practice so we had time to practice and a couple of groups were then ready so they presented.  We also decided who was bringing what for crêpes on Thursday.  Here is the list:

ELA 9A & 9B

The students had ten minutes of silent reading.  Then they had time to work on their novels, which will be turned in after the next class (9A today and 9B tomorrow.)
Some students also had time to complete their Book Talks, the only summatives that are outstanding at this point.

I still need Book Talks from: Averie, Ashton S, Kaylie J, Micheal and Miquiella.

*Today was an alternate day with a Pep Rally at the end of the day to recognize the final teams and clubs from this year and to recognize Ms. Mamer and Mr. Orobko as they retire.

* Recommends for Final Exams will be given out tomorrow!

The students had today to work on story boarding the stories that they wrote.  Most students should be done today.

The students had today to prepare a skit set in a restaurant and practice it.  They will be presenting it tomorrow.

The students had ten minutes of silent reading and then had a chance to edit their novels with a partner.  After editing the students had time to continue writing.  They have two classes left to work on their novel before it will be turned in. 

Summatives were due today.  I am still accepting Book Talks and the following students need to complete these:

FRENCH 10/20

We corrected our sheets on Future Tense.
Je vais manger du pain. (I'm going to eat some bread.)
We also added some supper food vocabulary to our notes and did a quick oral discussion of a meal we are going to eat.
Ce soir, je vais manger du poulet, de la pomme de terre, et des carottes.  Comme dessert je vais prendre du gateau chocolat et je vais boire du lait.

FRENCH 10/20

The students reviewed verbs used in a restaurant setting:
Vouloir - Je veux un sandwich.  (I want a sandwich.)
Commander - Il commande du café. (He orders dome coffee.)
Attendre - Nous attendons le menu.  (We wait for the menu.)
Prendre - Vous prenez de la pizza. (You (pl) take/have/order some pizza.)
Choisir - Tu choisis du jus d'orange. (You (s) choose/want/order some orange juice.)
Désirer - Elles désire des desserts.  (They (f) desire/want some desserts.)

We also started to discuss future tense.
You need the verb ALLER (to go) and an infinitive.
Example:  Je vais manger un hamburger.  (I am going to eat a hamburger.)
                 Tu vas choisir du thé?  (You (s) are going to choose/order some tea?)
                 Il ne va pas boire du lait. (He isn't going to drink some milk.)
                 Nous allons commander du biftek.  (We are going to order some steak.)
                 Vous allez prendre un sandwich.  (You (pl) are going to order a sandwich.)
                  Elles vont aller au restaurant.  (They (f) are going to go to the restaurant.)

The students wrote a short story (one paragraph 7-9 sentences), which they will turn into a storyboard.  When they were done the had time to finish any missing summatives and/or to create a new game in Scratch.

FRENCH 10/20

The students went through the lunch vocabulary that they researched yesterday.  They shared a lunch they could eat with 5 items. We also watched a video song about a poor pizza and its unfortunate fate.

ELA 9A

The students continued reading "The Hill" from page 167 to 203.

ELA 9B

The students continued reading "The Hill" from page 165 to 201.  They also read their own books fro ten minutes and had time to continue work on their novels or outstanding summatives.

We continued reading "The Hill" and left off on the bottom of page 132.  The second ELA class some students finished up their vocabulary quizzes and they also had time to work on their novels.  A few used the time to complete outstanding summative assignments.

Friday, June 8, 2018 (Day 2)

COMPUTERS 8

Today we reviewed shot types and then began story boarding.  Together we made a story board for the first part of "The Lion King."  Then the students started to storyboard the first minute of the following clip from "Up."  They have this class to work on it and Monday's if needed.  It will be due at the start of class on Wednesday.

FRENCH 10/20

We had one last student present the rooms in their house plan.  The students drew a room from a description given in French.  Then they had time to label their rooms and the furniture in their house plans.  We also watched part of a Friends episode in French where everyone talks really, really fast.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students continued to read "The Hill" by Karen Bass.  We finished up on page 102 today.

FRENCH 10/20

The students described the rooms and their locations on their house plans in French.  Tomorrow we will label the furniture in the various rooms.

FRENCH 7A

Six students were in the Chaise Chaud describing their clothing.  Then we reviewed ER verbs with a video and a Kahoot.  Then we wrote some sentences using ER verbs to describe a friend.

FRENCH 7B

Six students were in the Chaise Chaud describing their clothing.  Then we added some additional sentences to our list of activities using ER verbs.  Students also had a chance to start drawing the Friend, who they will be creating a poster about.  Please bring your pencil crayons next class.

ELA 9A & 9B

We continued reading "The Hill."  We read from page 34 to part of 69.  You should be adding reasons why Jared and Kyle can't be friends, in the real world, to your sheet.  Please catch up on the reading if you were absent.  Book talks are due tomorrow.  Please get them and any other outstanding summatives completed ASAP.

We went through the three families of shot types and looked at examples of each one.  We also watched videos on storyboarding and shot types.

FRENCH 10/20

The students drew one room from an oral description and worked on their house plans.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students started to read "The Hill" and make notes about the two main characters.  If you were absent please read to page 34 (where it says:  Go to sleep) before tomorrow.

ALL Summative assignments are due by June 18th. 

FRENCH 7B

Five students were in the Chaise Chaud and answered questions about the clothing they were wearing.  We reviewed ER verbs and played a Kahoot to practice,  Then we made up some sentecnes using ER verbs.
Je joue au baseball. (I play baseball.)
Je regarde le film.  (I watch a movie.)
Je mange du poulet.  (I eat some chicken.)

Today we worked on finishing up researching the various shot types.  We'll discuss what we found next class.  Some students also had time to work on other assignments.

FRENCH 10/20

The students drew a house based on an oral description.  Then they practiced describing and drawing a room with furniture.  The students also started drawing a floor plan of a house.  It should be a two or three story house and should have furniture in each room and the rooms that most houses have.  We'll continue drawing tomorrow.

ELA 9A & 9B

Today was the last day to green screen and finish up Book talks in class.  Anyone who is not done please use a noon or after school to finish up.  The Book Talks are due on Friday, June 4th.  Tomorrow we start to read "The Hill."

Monday, June 4, 2018 (Day 4)

FRENCH 10/20

The students continued working with house and furniture vocabulary.  They listened to a house description and then drew the house plan.  They drew their own house plans and explained them (in French) to their partner, who drew them.  They also described a room plan to their partner and drew their partner's room.  If you have not watched Episode 5 of Extra en Français, please do so as soon as possible and hand in. The last re-write for Imparfait/ Passé Composé will be Wednesday at lunch in my room.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students had time to continue work on their Book Talks. Book Talk steps are as follows:
a) create a cover for your novel (include title, author, image)
b) e-mail cover to Miss Riddell to print
c) fill out the planning sheet
d) green screen your book talk and your reading of a passage
e) put your green screen videos into an iMovie
f) upload to YouTube
g) create a QR code for the url of your video
h) make a Book Talk poster (include a picture of you and your book, the title, the author, a hashtag or two and the QR code)
i) e-mail your poster to Miss Riddell and hand in your planning sheet
*Students will have one more day of class time to work on this project.

We started a new Chaise Chaud describing what we are wearing on different parts of our bodies from head to feet.  We practiced and the first few people went.  Then the students wrote sentences describing what they are wearing today.  Lastly we played a Kahoot to practice our clothing vocabulary, colours, and ER verbs.

The students had time to complete their summary and comparison of pre-production, production, and post-production processes.  They also had time to research information on various Shot types including:   camera framing, camera movement, and camera composition.    If you were absent please do this for Tuesday's class.

FRENCH 10/20

The students watched Episode 5 of Extra en Français and summarized it.  They also practiced describing orally and drawing from an oral description, the layout of a room.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students read for ten minutes.  

Then they continued work on their BookTalks:
1.  create a cover for their novel
2.  plan their book talk
3.  greenscreen their booktalk
4. create a video in iMovie
5. upload to YouTube
6. create a QR code for the video url
7. make a poster with:
         a) you holding your book
         b) your title
         c) your name
         d) the QR code to your video
         e) a hashtag or two
         f) a background
8.  e-mail the final project to Miss Riddell

Students signed out "The Hill" from the library and used it to be "their novel" with their cover.  We will continue work on this during class on Monday and Tuesday, when it will be due.
