Friday, June 23, 2017 - Exams

ELA 9

Both classes wrote their final today and I've been impressed with many of their answers.  Great work by most!

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - Day 5

ELA 9A

The students silent read and finished the novel "The Hill."  Final on Friday at 9:00 am in the Senior Gym.

ELA 9B

The students wrote a Cheer Up letter to a cancer patient. Final on Friday at 9:00 am in the Junior Gym.

French 10/20/30

Final oral presentations.  5 minutes on a topic of choice.

French 7B

We had time to play a kahoot on "Would You Rather..." before locker clean out.

Wednesday, June 21, 2017 - Day 4

The students had one last day to write their name using Scratch programming. They also had time to study, finish up assignments, and some had a bit of free time.

Today was crepe day.  A yummy class was had by all.

The students silent read and we continued on with our novel "The Hill."  We read until page 228 and will finish up tomorrow.

*Tomorrow is Formal Day plus the last day of classes.  Exams start Friday.  ELA 9 will be on Friday at 9 am sharp.  9B will be in the Junior Gym and 9A will be in the Senior Gym.

The students continued programming in Scratch to spell out their names. Some even added colours and backgrounds.

The students had 2 classes to silent read and read the novel.  We finished up on page 199 of "The Hill."

The students worked on coordinates for spelling out their names using a Scratch program and some started programming.

ELA 9B

The students silent read and then we read "The Hill"  up to page 198.  The final on Friday will contain questions on Romeo and Juliet and The Hill.  Read over your Romeo & Juliet notes and make sure you read any pages of The Hill, which you missed.

French 7B

The students had their final exam today and then time to study or work on other subjects.

French 10/20/30

The students had time to prepare a 5 minute talk on a subject of their choice.  They should have it memorized and may use props or a powerpoint to present on Thursday.  Crepes will be made on Wednesday.
Examples:  
A trip and use a suitcase, which contains what they are taking, maps, souvenirs, etc.  
Family or friends -  pictures of different members or objects special to them.  
The future - what will you do, where will you live, who will you spend time with, and so on.

ELA 9A

The students silent read and then we read "The Hill"  up to chapter 14 page 142.  The final on Friday will contain questions on Romeo and Juliet and The Hill.  Read over your Romeo & Juliet notes and make sure you read any pages of The Hill, which you missed.

The students watched three videos they had shot from their storyboards.  Then we started working on graphing the letters in our first names to create a program in Scratch next week.

French 7B

The students reviewed for their final on Monday, June 19th.  Study this weekend please.

The students had a double ELA class today so they silent read twice and we made it to page 173 of "The Hill."

The students played 20 questions and worked on their questioning skills.

The students finished up our last Chaise Chaud.  We also went through what will be on the final exam and practiced using kahoot.  Our final will be in-class on Tuesday, June 20th.

The students wrote an animal riddle and then finished up their pen pal letters.  They received a study outline for the final exam, which will be in class on Monday, June 19th.

The students had time to finish their storyboards and a few groups filmed their movies.  We will watch the movies next class (Friday).

The students prepared and then interviewed each other on what would be happening in  their lives in the future, when they are 40, 60, 80 or 100.

ELA 9A

The students read silently and then continued reading "The Hill."  We read up to the end of chapter 3.

ELA 9B

The students read silently and then continued reading "The Hill."  We read from page 51 up to the end of chapter 5.

The students had this class to complete corrections on their Famous Francophone slide shows before turning them in on Google Classroom.  They also received an outline for the final exam, which will be written in-class on Tuesday, June 20th.

The students started storyboarding their shot lists.  If your shot list is not done it must be done for tomorrow.  Classes will be in room 210 until further notice.

French 7B

The students typed out their pen pal letters and worked on an animal crossword.

ELA 9B

The students silent read.  They had time to go to the library and sign out our final novel "The Hill" and reading books for classes until the end of the year.  We also finished up almost all Passion Project presentations.  Please get outstanding assignments in ASAP and blogs are due tomorrow and whatever is complete will be marked this weekend.  We also read the first chapter of "The Hill."

The students did a final drawing of a house.  This was a summative assessment so if you were absent see me when you return. We also read about timetabling a busy life.

ELA 9A

*It was an alternate day, which ended with a Pep Rally.

The students continued presenting their Famous Francophones and receiving formative feedback.  We also had time to read a few more pen pal letters.

The students drew another house from an oral description and we had the final three house presentations.  The students also discussed "Qu'est-ce tu vas faire quand tu as cinquante ans?"

ELA 9A & 9B

The students silent read and then we had more Passion Project presentations.  If students have overdue Romeo & Juliet assignments they should plan to be in the Learning Lab at lunch until they are finished.  We are finishing all Passion Projects tomorrow.  Be prepared to present.

*Congratulations to all the Awards Night winners! Remember tomorrow is Lunch on the Lawn.

The students read silently and we continued Passion Project presentations.  If your presentation is not finished make sure you get it ready to go for next class. The students drew a house from an orale description.  We had three more students present their House Posters.  We also discussed future plans for the weekend.  If you are not sure something will happen you can use the term "peut-etre" maybe or add an if clause.  Example:  Si il fait du soleil. (If it is sunny.)

French 7B

We went through the students exams.  Then we began a rough draft of a letter to another grade 7 student.  We ended with a rousing game of Fruit Basket Upset.

*Tonight is Awards Night.  Come help us celebrate starting at 7:00 pm.

The students watched some videos reviewing shot types and introducing story boarding skills.  Then they had time to take their story from last class and turn it into a Shot List.  Next class (Thursday) we will start story boarding so get your shot list done by then please.

The students drew another house from an oral description and we started presentations for their house posters.  We also started working using future tense.

Friday, June 2nd, 2017 - Day 3

The students had time to write a short story, which will be turned into a storyboard.  See Google Classroom for more information.

The students had time to silent read and then time to finish up their Passion Project Visual Presentations, which will start on Monday.

French 10/20/30

The students drew a house after listening to oral directions.  Then they had the rest of the class to work on their French House posters.  Presentations will begin on Monday.

French 8B

The students started their presentations on Famous Francophones.  Formative feedback was given after each presentation and students will have a chance to make changes before the presentation is given a summative written mark.


Thursday, June 1, 2017 - Day 2

Computers 8 Red

The students went through their information on Shot Types with Mrs. Robertson.  Next day we will begin writing a short story to use in a story-boarding exercise.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students had 10 minutes of silent reading and then time to work on their Passion Project presentations.  Make sure your Google Slides are attached to the Google Classroom assignment. presentations will begin Monday.

French 7B

The students watched episode 4 of Chez Mimi and summarized it.
