Tuesday, February 28, 2017 - Day 5

ELA 9A

The students silent read and then we read and corrected Act 1, Scene 5. You may check your answers here:  Powerpoint

French 10/20/30

The class continued working with passé composé.  We finished correcting some irregular verbs used with avoir such as boire--> bu, faire--> fait, and dire--> dit.  Then we reviewed the Dr. & Mrs. Vandertramp verbs, which are conjugated with être.  You can review the tragic story of the Docteur and Madame Vandertramp here: Powerpoint

ELA 9B

The students silent read and the corrected the Prologue and Scene 1 for Act II.  Powerpoint.  Then we started to watch the Stratford Festival Production of Romeo and Juliet.  We will be watching parts of several versions and comparing how they have been filmed.

French 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then we reviewed "er" verbs, did a practice sheet, and went through the formative quizzes that were done before break.  The students will have a summative quiz during Thursday's class, so study!

Monday, February 27, 2017 - Day 4

The students worked on researching and finding examples of shot types, camera motion and camera composition.  Students should be mostly finished the chart with descriptions and images for next class.

Friday, February 17, 2017 - Day 3

The students had time to finish their production processes comparisons.  If they were done they also had time to finish any outstanding assignments.  They had a new mini search to try as well:  Which province first held a Family Day holiday and when?  When is Family Day held in each province or territory?  Are there any provinces or territories where Family Day is not held and why?

ELA 9A

The students silent read twice today.  They also corrected the Prologue and Act 1, Scene 1.  They then continued reading Act1, Scene2 and did the questions and corrected them.  They also read Act 1, Scene 3 and started the questions.

Thursday, February 16, 2017 - Day 2

The students continued working on their comparisons of two forms of media (tv/web, film/movie, or radio/music by discussing the pre-production, production, and post-production processes, using Word.

ELA 9B & 9A

The students silent read and then worked on their Passion Projects.  Many students are missing blog posts and need to get caught up.  We will be having Passion Project work time approximately once every 2 weeks as the year progresses and students will wrap up their projects around SLC time.

French 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud answering questions about Ton Ecole.  Then we did a quick "er" review before writing our formative quiz.  The students  also continued to practice by playing Kahoots and writing sentences..

French 10/20/30

The students once again chose a topic that they liked and then were asked questions about it by everyone else.  Today was their summative assessment for this activity.  If you were absent you will be assessed after the break.  The students also wrote out a short question and answer conversation, about a topic of your choice between you and someone else, as a written formative assessment. (grade 10 - 14 lines (7 questions), grade 11 - 16 lines (8 questions), and grade 12 - 18 lines (9 questions).  If you were absent today please do this over break.

Wednesday, February 15, 2017 - Day 1

Today we discussed the pre-production, production, and post-production for tv/web, film/movie, and radio/music.  Then students started a summative assessment (using Word) on comparing 2 forms of media's 3 production stages. The students willl have two more classes to complete this assignment.

French 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud and then we reviewed "er" verbs and finished correcting our practice sheet.  Please study this sheet for our formative quiz tomorrow.  If you were absent check your e-mail for a copy of the correct answers. Remember the steps:  
1. look at the PRONOUN
2. find the ROOT (get rid of the ER)
3. add the ENDINGS
*Note:  The verb MANGER becomes MANG and for NOUS only the ending is EONS.

The students silent read for 10 minutes for both classes and then we continued with Romeo and Juliet.  We corrected questions about Act I, Scene I.  You may find the answers here:  Act I, Scene I slideshow.  Then we read Act I, Scene 2 and Scene 3 and corrected the questions.  Act 1, Scene 2 slideshow  Act 1, Scene 3 slideshow  We also read Act 1, Scene 4 which will be corrected on Friday.

The students continued asking and answering questions, today we chose the theme of things we disliked.  Next we continued trying out the classes' verb kahoots.

The students silent read for 10 minutes.  The class then read the Prologue and Act 1, Scene 1.  Questions about these scenes will be gone through on Friday.

Tuesday, February 14, 2017 - Day 6

Six students were in the Chaise Chaud today.  Then we reviewed the verb "être" in preparation for the passé composé verbs which are used with être.  Then we watched a story to help us remember that all the verbs that go with être for passé composé are coming and going verbs.

The students practiced asking and answering questions in French and then they started presenting their verb Kahoots.

ELA 9A

The students silent read and then we corrected their questions about Shakespeare's life and times.  We looked at how the play book is set-up and will read the prologue next class.  Here is a link to the Shakespeare Slideshow.

The students silent read and then we discussed the prologue questions for Romeo and Juliet.  Next we read Act I, Scene 1 with various students playing various parts.  Good reading everyone!  Next we started the questions about this scene.

The students silent read for 10 minutes, we discussed assessments for their completed Outsiders projects and their Poster presentations.  Then the students had time to research questions about William Shakespeare.  We will be correcting these questions for next class so please finish them.

French 10/20/30

The students practiced asking and answering questions and then had a final class to finish up their verb Kahoot.

ELA 9B

The students silent read for 10 minutes and we continued discussing assessments for their completed Outsiders projects and their Poster presentations.  Then the class discussed the research questions about William Shakespeare and discussed how the books for Romeo & Juliet are set up.

French 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud for Ton Ecole.  Then we had a pop quiz on pronouns followed by a review of conjugating "er" verbs.  Next we practiced conjugating "er" verbs.

The students had time to finish working on their investigations into the Pre-production, Production and Post-Production of radio/music, tv/webisodes, and film/movies.  We will be discussing what they discovered next class.

French 10/20/30

The students continued orally asking and answering questions about each other.  The then had time to continue work on their verb Kahoot.  See yesterday's post for the outline of this assignment.

ELA 9A

The students had silent reading time and then we completed viewing Gnomeo and Juliet.  If you were absent please watch the rest of the movie on-line and complete your questions for Monday.  Note: number 15 is an opinion question and you do not have to have read or seen the real Romeo and Juliet to answer. Please back up your answer with an explanation.

ELA 9B

The students had silent reading time.  Students then had time to record the last 3 weeks of Reading Logs on Google Classroom.  Students then did some research on William Shakespeare using the laptops.  If you were absent please do those questions (1-12) for Monday's class.

French 7B - Aiden, Xander and Matthew owe me their Mon Voyage video.  Please borrow an iPad at lunch or after-school and get it done.  Bring your iPad to me when you are finished.

French 8B - Micheal you need to write your Passe Compose using Avoir exam.

Today we started with a round robin Q & A session on various likes and favourites.  Then we planned out a verb Kahoot.  Those who were absent will have to do the following:
a) Create an account at :https://getkahoot.com/
b) Choose a verb family: er, ir, or re
c) Make-up 15 questions using your verb family.
Examples:

Wednesday, February 8, 2017 - Day 2

The students are working in pairs to research pre-production, production, and posr-production stages for Movies/films, Television/web series and Radio/music.  Research information is being placed in a Google doc.  If you were absent look at you and your partner's topics and add to them please.

ELA 9B

The students silent read for 20 minutes today and then finished watching Gnomeo & Juliet.  We discussed the movie and students received back their Outsiders's projects and their initial Passion Project marks.  If you were absent you can watch the whole movie on YouTube.

French 7B

The students received a new Chaise Chaud sheet on Ton Ecole.  Then they had a presentation on Activate.  Students are encouraged to start thinking of a project that they can do and then submit to the Activate Contest by March 12.  This year's Day of Activation will occur on April 12th.

French 10/20/30

The students practiced talking about themselves orally and asking questions.  They also reviewed "re" verbs and played a kahoot to practice "er", "ir" and "re" verbs.  If you are absent I have a sheet for you.

ELA 9A

The students silent read for 10 minutes today, listened to the last poster presentation, signed out copies of Romeo & Juliet, and then continued watching Gnomeo & Juliet.

Today the student watched a video on the making of an Old Spice commercial and then analyzed the planning, shooting and editing that went into creating it.

French 7B

Two students were in the Chaise Chaud.  There was a pop quiz on pronouns, which proved most people need to get them memorized.  Then we watched a video on "er" verbs and started learning how to conjugate them.

French 10/20/30

The students talked about themselves in French and then wtched and summarized Extra en Francais (episode 4).  We also started reviewing "ir" verbs.

ELA 9B & 9A

The students silent read and then were introduced to Romeo and Juliet.by watching the Gnomeo and Juliet DVD.  If you are absent get the questions to answer from Miss Riddell.

Friday, February 3, 2017 - Day 6

*PD Day Monday, February 6th so no classes for students.

French 8B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  We did a little bit of review and then students wrote their exam on past tense using avoir.  We finished up with a couple of games to practice numbers.


French 10/20/30

The students did their first summative oral assessment by discussing a family member.  They then had class time to finish their written poster about their family.  The poster must include: mom, dad, one sibling, themselves, and pets. Information about each person should include:  age, birthday, hair, eyes, job, and likes,   Posters are due Tuesday.

ELA 9A & 9B

The students silent read for 10 minutes.  Then students did a new blog post updating and reflecting on their progress so far.  It should include the following information:
  1. Update on what they have done so far.
  2. Two difficulties they have encountered and how they are going to (or have already) overcome them.
  3. Two new things they have learned or discovered and where they found the information.
  4. Two new things they want to research on their topic.

This blog post should be well written using paragraphs, proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
*Several students are missing blog posts.  Make sure you have blog posts completed on the following:
  1. an introduction
  2. sources (may be tabs or a list of links)
  3. plan outline
  4. essential question 
  5. poster 
  6. today's reflection

ELA 9A & 9B

The students silent read for 10 minutes.  Then they continued working on their Passion Projects.  Many students think they will be absent tomorrow.  If you are indeed absent check the blog or Facebook page for what you missed tomorrow.

French 10/20/30

The class reviewed question words and formats.  Today we presented ourselves and then began a poster about our family.  Tomorrow we will have our first oral summative and finish up our summative written poster.

French 7B

Three students were in the Chaise Chaud.  Then the students had time to edit their iMovies using the clips they filmed with the greenscreen for Mon Voyage.  If they are all finished then they had time to work on some sheets about various activities.
*If you are not done then you need to get your iPad at a noon or before or after school and finish up your video on your own time.

The students had their last class to finish up their Spreadsheet assignment.  We are starting a new topic Monday so this assignment is now homework.

French 10/20/30

The students received feedback on their first writing assignment.  They then discussed "leurs pères" and had a review of "er" verbs.


ELA 9A & 9B

The students silent read.  They then had time to finish improving their Essential Question and to blog about it.   Some students also had time to continue work on their Passion Projects.
