ELA 9A

Today we:

1. Edited and made a good copy of our Remembrance Day poems. See separate assignment. 2. Then we discussed Sonnets. Watch the Prezi in Google Classroom. 3. I will send you a topic (if you are absent) for your sonnet. 4. Write a sonnet using the steps below. a) Brainstorm any words or ideas, which you know about the topic.(5-7 minutes) Write them on a piece of looseleaf and spread them out. In my example (on GC) the brainstorming was in black. b) Go through your words and add as many rhyming words as you can for each word from your brainstorming. (5-10 minutes) In my example (on GC) the rhyming words are in red. c) Start to write your sonnet. Print out the sheet below if you were absent. *I always start by looking at the rhyme scheme and getting basic lines down that follow the rhyme scheme. *Then I go back and make sure I have 10 syllables or beats in each line. You can see in my example where I have crossed our words or added to a line. d) At the end you should have 14 lines that follow the rhyme scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GG with 10 syllables in each line. We'll finish this on Friday.
