Friday, November 13, 2020 (Day 1)

Today we watched the next part of Gnomeo and Juliet.  We'll finish it up on Monday.  

We also started to prepare for our SLCs, which will be on-line this year.



ELA 7C

We continued to prepare for our SLCs, which will be on-line this year.

Then we discussed the answers for yesterday's reading of "Discovering the Iceman." Then we read "Frozen Man" and discussed the timeline at the bottom of the page. We did questions #1 & 2. ELA 9A

Today we finished the rough drafts of our sonnets. Then we proofread and typed out a good copy. Please use the document attached to Sonnet Good Copy. This is homework if not finished, due Monday. Next we listened to and read the poem "The Seven Ages of Man," annotated, and discussed it. We also completed the questions, which we will go through on Monday. All materials are posted on Google Classroom.

Thursday, November 12, 2020 (Day 2)

ELA 9A

Today we:

1. Edited and made a good copy of our Remembrance Day poems. See separate assignment. 2. Then we discussed Sonnets. Watch the Prezi in Google Classroom. 3. I will send you a topic (if you are absent) for your sonnet. 4. Write a sonnet using the steps below. a) Brainstorm any words or ideas, which you know about the topic.(5-7 minutes) Write them on a piece of looseleaf and spread them out. In my example (on GC) the brainstorming was in black. b) Go through your words and add as many rhyming words as you can for each word from your brainstorming. (5-10 minutes) In my example (on GC) the rhyming words are in red. c) Start to write your sonnet. Print out the sheet below if you were absent. *I always start by looking at the rhyme scheme and getting basic lines down that follow the rhyme scheme. *Then I go back and make sure I have 10 syllables or beats in each line. You can see in my example where I have crossed our words or added to a line. d) At the end you should have 14 lines that follow the rhyme scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GG with 10 syllables in each line. We'll finish this on Friday.





ELA 7C

Today we read the article "Discovering the Iceman" attached below. Make special note of the special information in the boxes throughout the article. After reading do questions #1, 2, 3, and 4. Today we finished up the pre-reading discussion and did the pre-writing activity on Google Classroom.
Choose one of the topics below and type a one page (or longer story) on Google Classroom. Write as if the story if happening to you. It can be fictional or true. Your choice.


Tomorrow we are going to start watching "Gnomeo and Juliet."

Wednesday, November 4, 2020 (Day 1)

ELA 7C

Today we finished up our Flipgrids and questions 4. Then we read over Reading for Information before starting to read How to Make a Mummy Talk. We stopped at “How We Got the Word Mummy” and will finish up tomorrow. More information on Google Classroom. 

ELA 9A

We watched the videos for the song "Breakeven" and the poem "Sonnet 30." Then we annotated the poems and discussed them before doing the Compare and Contrast questions. We corrected the questions. After that we signed up for No Red Ink. Instructions in the post below. The students also filled out a survey on their favourite songs for a class playlist. The survey link is in the Stream. Lastly we looked at a variety of Remembrance Day poems and discussed their rhyme structure, repetition, and other styles. This is in preparation for writing your own Remembrance Day poem on Friday.

Tuesday, November 3, 2020 (Day 2)

 ELA 9A

1. We corrected the poetry lingo sheet from yesterday, 2. We watched videos and took notes on the following Literary Terms: Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole, and Paradox. The videos and note taking sheets are attached below. 3. We watched the videos and listened to the words for Stereo Hearts and A Red, Red Rose. 4. Then we annotated the song and poem following the steps from yesterday in "How to Read a Poem." 5. We did the questions about Stereo Hearts and A Red, Red Rose and corrected. 6. We watched the videos for Break Even and Sonnet 30. We'll annotate tomorrow.

ELA 7C

For questions number 2 in Bodies + Bones we made a chart with information about the bones mentioned in the article.  Use the headings and set-up in the question in your blue duotang. For question number 3 the students recorded their thoughts on a Flip Grid and for question 4 they did some research one 2-3 other facts about bones, recording their source.  We'll finish up tomorrow.

Monday, November 2, 2020 (Day1) Block 2

ALT ELA

Today we watched the video version of  Friday's story "The Most Dangerous Game."


Then we started an introduction for "Romeo and Juliet" by learning about the writer William Shakespeare, his theatre "The Globe," and some of the language he uses in his writings. See Google Classroom for more information.

ELA 7C

We corrected the Look-Alike/Sound-Alikes for Past/Passed and Quiet/Quit/Quite.  We also went through the answers for the article we read about the Warrior.  We started to read through the next article on Bodies + Bones.  We made notes together. See Google Classroom for more information.

ELA 9A

Today we went through expectations and the plan for this Quint.  Then we got started by brainstorming about ourselves and used this information to write a Bio poem.  These are due tomorrow.  See Google Classroom for more information. We enjoyed a sunny walk outside for our break and then finished up the class by examining How to Read a Poem and some poetry vocabulary.
